ABOUT US : Maria Sakowitz, M.S., R.D.
Maria Sakowitz, M.S., R.D. has been a diabetic educator since 1995. She is certified in adult weight loss by the American Dietetic Association, and has been trained in helping those with anorexia and bulimia at the Renfrew Center in New York City.
Maria spent 7 years as Assistant Director and Director at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation (Ranked #4 in the nation, USA Today).
She has performed extensive research work at UMDNJ including:
• Research on weight gain associated with antipsychotic medications
• Wrote nutrition protocol and performed the teaching for the "Healthy Living
Program" at 2 UMDNJ facilities
• Published research article "Managing Weight Gain in Schizophrenics taking atypical,
antipsychotic medications"
• Published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, April, 2004 "Managing Atypical
Antipsychotic-Associated Weight Gain: 12 Month Data on a Multimodal Weight
Control Program"
